3D models help people to visualise a design.  Basic electronic models like the one above can be produced quickly, and can show exteriors, interiors, materials, shadows etc.  We can explore the model from all angles and move through it, making changes as required.  Models can be kept very simple whilst examining alternative concepts, or made more detailed for presentation purposes.  Models can be very cost effective in helping to avoid potentially making expensive mistakes, and in presenting your proposals positively.  Any view can be plotted, or an animation made.
