We
were employed by Bracknell Forest Borough Council to help
develop an Urban Design policy for Bracknell town centre and
were part of the Town Centre Forum. For many years we have been
promoting the potential for the improvement of Bracknell town
centre and now developers are queueing up with major projects in
mind. We hope that some of our requests and ideas are included,
such as a more human character to replace the concrete,
underpasses and prominent multi-storey car parks.
Our ideas included making
landmarks of roundabouts, making 'gateways' into the town,
getting rid of an inner ring road which is acting as a
restrictive collar, facing shops outwards, linking up walkways
and creating a park by the station, making more surface level
short-term parking, adding residential accommodation and leisure
facilities/cafes, improved landscaping and higher density
development like traditional towns to produce a more human and
vibrant atmosphere.
The Council also employed us
to convert a redundant office block into flats - the building
has since been converted into an hotel.
